With the approaching observance of Constitution Day, also called Citizenship Day, nearly 100 people were welcomed as new U.S. citizens during naturalization proceedings Thursday morning at the Fort Scott National Historic Site.

Ninety-five applicants from 36 countries took the Oath of Citizenship as given by Teddy Van Ness, courtroom deputy with the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas in Kansas City, Kan., which oversaw the proceedings, with U.S. Magistrate Judge Teresa James presiding.
