A walk past the flags

Tuesday, July 3, 2018
Arnold Schofield walks down the sidewalk of the Fort Scott National Historic Site parade ground past thousands of flags on display for Symbols of Sacrifice. He had just commanded the cannon detail for Saturday’s program, which began with a performance by Pat and Steve Harry, Norman Jones and Johnathan Gauthier and concluded with a cannon firing and Taps. The flags are on display until Friday to commemorate those who have given their lives in the line of duty during each war.

Nearly 7,000 flags are flying on the Fort Scott National Historic Site parade ground to commemorate the ultimate sacrifice service men and women have given throughout all wars the country has been involved in. The flags will remain on display until Friday. The week-long observance began Saturday.
