Indians 18s win two in Topeka

TOPEKA — The Kansas Indians 18-and-under local summer baseball team recently participated in the Washburn Tournament at Topeka, winning two of four games.

The Indians (13-9-1) won their first of two games on Friday over the Natural Baseball Academy 17-and-under team, 7-2, with 5 runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Alec Michaud had 3 of the Indians’ 11 hits while Kieran Houlihan had 2. They along with Tyler Gorman each drove in 2 runs.

Colby Page went the distance on the hill, allowing one earned run on 4 hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts.

The second game on Friday ended in a 7-7 tie with the Topeka Tornados after 8 innings. Houlihan, Cooper Bradbury and Brody Bowles each had 2 hits.

Chandler Defebaugh went the first 7 innings on the mound, allowing 5 earned runs on 9 hits and 2 walks with 2 strikeouts. Bradbury pitched the eighth, walking one.

Saturday, the Indians defeated the Mission Angels, 3-0. Houlihan had 2 of their 7 hits. Blaine Hanf allowed only 1 hit, didn’t walk anyone and struck out 10.

Sunday, the Indians fell to the BTL Hornets, 7-4. Houlihan had 2 hits and Matt Campbell drove in 2runs.

The Indians were scheduled to play a single nine-inning game at Joplin Tuesday night. The Indians swept a doubleheader from Joplin on June 19 at Dave Regan Stadium by scores of 9-0 and 7-5.
