SALINA -- Fort Scott High School junior Zarek Fewell finished in fourth place at the Kansas State Class 4A Wrestling Tournament here over the weekend, going 3-2.

Fewell (24-8) competed in the 152-pound weight class and had a first-round match against Holcomb's Tanner Johnson, who was ranked No. 5 in Class 4A by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association coming in. Fewell took a 3-2 decision to move into the quarterfinal round. There, third-ranked Jarrett Jurgens of Scott City won a 5-2 decision.

That loss pushed Fewell to the back side of the bracket with a chance to still finish as high as third. Fewell defeated sixth-ranked Gage herron of Bonner Springs, 4-3, in his first match on that side. Then Fewell won a 7-6 decision over Jonny Trowbridge of Baldwin.

Fewell defeated Tonganoxie's Caden Searcy in the consolation semifinal, 4-2, to move into the third-place match, a rematch with Jurgens, which the Scott City junior (33-2) won 5-0.

Jurgens lost in the semifinal to fourth-ranked Nick Lucas of Pratt. Lucas (37-3) then lost a 5-0 decision in the final to top-ranked Anthony Scantlin of Mulvane, who finished his senior season 42-0.

Jordan Ishimura of Frontenac (29-9), who defeated then-sixth ranked Fewell in the Regional final at Frontenac the weekend prior, was eliminated in three matches with Trowbridge pinning him in the consolation quarters.

Junior Mannie Gonzalez (11-8) wrestled at 126 pounds and was 0-2. Kaden Wren of Scott City pinned Gonzalez in the first round. Chance Price of Winfield won a 9-6 decision in the first round of the consolation side.

Abilene won the team title by a wide margin. The Cowboys scored 133.5 points compated to just 89 for runner-up Bonner Springs. It is the school's fourth title and its first since 2003.
