Harlan Elmer Murrell, age 92, a former resident of Mountain View, Mo., and Elkhart, Kan., and more recently of Fort Scott, Kan., died Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at the Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott. He was born Nov. 15, 1923, in Mountain View, Mo., the son of Elmer Monroe Murrell and Gladys Mildred Colyer Murrell. He married Olive F. Hailey on June 3, 1951, in Texas County, Mo. Harlan operated his own farm near Mountain View for the majority of his life. He and his wife left their farm and moved to Elkhart in 2009 and then to Fort Scott in 2014. He was a longtime member of the First Church of God in Mountain View.

Survivors include a son, Gary Murrell and wife, Fannie, of Redfield, Kan., and a daughter, Harla Stephens and husband, Kendall, of Stella, Mo.; four grandchildren, Rachael Woosley and husband, Michael, of Chandler, Ariz., Hanna Malveaux and husband, James, of Fort Scott, Maxwell Stephens and fiancé, Brittany Blue and Hailey Stephens, all of Stella, Mo. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Madalynn, Michael and Markus Woosley and Harmony, Morgan and Jada Malveaux. His wife, Olive, preceded him in death on July 10, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Dale Murrell, who died in infancy and Glen Murrell, and two sisters, Fern Reiff and Orena Cowan.

Rev. Randy Brooks will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8 at the First Church of God in Mountain View, Mo. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery in Mountain View. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10 a.m. until service time at the church.
