Olive F. Murrell, age 94, a former resident of Mountain View, Mo., and Elkhart, Kan., and more recently of Fort Scott, Kan., died Sunday, July 10, 2016, at the Guest Home Estates in Fort Scott. She was born Jan. 31, 1922, in Texas County, Mo., the daughter of Cecil W. Hailey and Ethel Inez Overlease Hailey. She graduated from Summersville, Mo., High School with the Class of 1940. She went on to receive her teaching degree from what is now SMSU. She married Harlan Murrell on June 3, 1951, at her parent's home in Texas County, Mo. Olive began her teaching career in a one-room school house. She later taught second and third grades at the Mountain View School for over 30 years. She was a longtime member of the Mountain View First Church of God. She served as Sunday school teacher, church treasurer and worship leader. She enjoyed singing and frequently sang at funeral services. She also enjoyed quilting and painting as well as cooking. Mr. and Mrs. Murrell moved from Mountain View to Elkhart, Kan., in 2009 and later moved to the Fort Scott area in 2014.

Survivors include her husband, Harlan, of the home in Fort Scott; a son, Gary Murrell and wife, Fannie, of Redfield, Kan., and a daughter, Harla Stephens and husband, Kendall, of Stella, Mo.; four grandchildren, Rachael Woosley and husband, Michael, of Chandler, Ariz., Hanna Malveaux and husband, James, of Fort Scott, Maxwell Stephens and fiancé, Brittany and Hailey Stephens, all of Stella. Maxwell and Britney plan to be married on Harlan and Olive's 66th wedding anniversary. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Madalynn, Michael and Markus Woosley and Harmony, Morgan and Jada Malveaux and two sisters, Doris Lee, of Mountain View, Mo., and Vivian Moore, of Tempe, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Ann Riley and infant twins, Maxine and Irene Hailey.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16 at the Mountain View Church of God. Burial will follow in the Mountain View City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Friday at the church, 205 W. 5th St. in Mountain View.
