The Greyhounds improved to 1-1 in the Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division and 9-2 overall. Independence fell to 0-3, 1-7.

Despite dropping two of three matches to ranked teams since the Division II pre-season poll was issued in late August, Fort Scott moved up nine spots in the first poll of the regular season, issued Wednesday morning. The top three spots remain the same with Parkland, Ill., No. 1 with a 12-0 record, Glendale, Ariz., No. 2 at 4-0, and Cowley No. 3 at 7-0.

Fort Scott lost at Cowley on Aug. 26 in a Jayhawk Conference match. The Greyhounds also suffered a loss to then-No. 12 Kirkwood, Iowa, at the Northeast (Neb.) Tournament but defeated then-No. 4 Central Nebraska in the same tournament. The 'Hounds also have a win against Brookhaven, Texas, the pre-season No. 2 team in Division III.

In the new poll, Kirkwood is No. 9 at 10-2 and Central Nebraska is No. 12 with a 7-4 record.

Jayhawk Conference member Johnson County is No. 5 while Coffeyville has received votes. Kansas City, ranked No. 15 in the pre-season, has dropped out of the poll with a 3-8 record.

East Central, Mo., one of the teams Fort Scott beat in its home invitational along with Brookhaven, is No. 16 with a record of 8-4. Northeast (Neb.), a team Fort Scott defeated in Northeast's tournament, is ranked No. 17 at 6-3.

Fort Scott plays in a two-day tournament at Marshalltown, Iowa, beginning today. The Greyhounds will play two matches each day.

NOTES -- While there are three Eastern Division teams ranked in the Division II poll, the only Western Division team in the Division I poll is Hutchinson, which is No. 15 with a record of 6-0. There are no teams listed under "Others receiving votes."
