Joann Hays

Joann Hays, age 72, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday, July 13, 2015, at the Olathe Medical Center, in Olathe, Kan., due to pulmonary fibrosis. Joann was born Nov. 14, 1942, to Calvert Sipe and Josephine Finney Sipe. Joann graduated from Uniontown High School with the class of 1960. She had first worked for IBM in Kansas City and later for the Western Insurance Company. For a time she worked as an over the road truck driver. She was them employed as an auditor for Hinkley Beverage, and later as human resource and office manager for Labconco until she retired. Joan married Thomas A. Carlisle in 1964, they had a daughter Sheila; they later divorced in 1965. In 1968, she married Melvin D. Camp, he died in a tragic accident in 1972. Joann married James L. Hays in 1973, and they had a daughter, Melissa.

Survivors include two daughters, Sheila Hixon, and husband, Robert and Melissa Hays-Mitchell and husband, Dean Zimmerman, all of Fort Scott; a step-son Jason Hays of Germany; a son and daughter at heart, Jason and Monica Younggren of Olathe, Kan.; grandchildren Samantha, Joseph, Dayton, Christopher, Dawson, Victoria, and Katelynn; great-grandson Bryant; grandkids at heart, Allea, Alec, Reece, Justin, Jamie, and Jessica; and a special friend John Younggren. Joann was preceded in death by her parents; Brother Claud Sipe; and two husbands Melvin D. Camp and James L. Hays.

Lloyd Houk will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Friday, July 17 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Following funeral services, there will be cremation. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.
