Martisha A. Mabery, age 88, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday, March 10, 2014, at the Franklin House in Fort Scott. She was born Oct. 17, 1925, in Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of Peter Elijah Marlett and Iva Mae Hillman Marlett. She married Charles Oliver Mabery on Sept. 15, 1947, in Benton County, Ark. He preceded her in death on Aug. 19, 2007. Following their marriage the couple moved to Oregon. They returned to Fort Scott in 1998. Martisha had worked for J.C. Penney Company and as a waitress. In addition to her family, she loved quilting and sewing. She also enjoyed animals, especially dogs.

Survivors include her daughter, Marsha Westwick, Oregon City, Ore.; two grandchildren, Mike Shupe, and Kimberly Stewart; a great-grandchild; a great-great-grandchild; and niece and caregiver Janet Littleton. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Carmen Sue; a brother Miles Marlett; and a sister, Teola Parsell.

Pastor Tolle Bowman will conduct graveside services at 11 a.m. Friday, March 14 at the U.S. National Cemetery. Family and friends may meet at the Cheney Witt Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery at 10:45 a.m. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O. 347, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan.
