Fort Scott High School hosts Plus 5 dinner

Wednesday, April 4, 2012

A group of Fort Scott High School students was recognized for their academic achievements during the annual Plus 5 dinner Monday at the school.

Forty-seven students qualified for the event. Attendees enjoyed the variety of pizzas, ice cream and soft drinks that were provided.

FSHS Principal Bob Beckham introduced each student who then received an achievement certificate from Assistant Principal Jeff DeLaTorre.

The program began in 1991 to recognize students who were able to raise their third-quarter grade .5 or above their cumulative grade point average.

Historically, the third quarter is the most difficult time of the year for students to raise their grades. Nationally, most students' grades fall or remain the same during this academic period, a news release said.

Students who qualified to attend the dinner were given the option to invite a teacher to the dinner who encouraged them to raise their grades.

The following students received invitations to the dinner: Tyler Adams, Kyle Altic, Skylar Anderson, Charles Arbogast, Kaitlin Barker, Gennifer Beerbower, A.J. Cezar, Maeci Cosens, Jessica Cox, Dehn Davenport, Cody Davis, Jakub Dowell, Michael Embry, Haleigh Fleeman, Tyler Fleharty, Marques Floyd, Chad Hazlip, Chism Hoener, Karis Hopkins, Malik Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Kenneth Littrel, Larry Marshall, Rilee McDonald, Chip McElmurry, Davyn Nelms-Miller, Rahab Ngatia, Rabecca Nuzum, Morgan Olson, Daryn Parker, Allison Parsons, Brent Parsons, Bryer Pearson, Michael Peterson, Damian Roberts, Roger Rodriguez, Rilie Ross, Ryan Speer, Daisha Sprague, Grace Thomas, Kylee Thomas, Tiffany Thorne, Jason Thorpe, Sami Thurston, Justin Uhler, Siarra Willard and Nakesha Young.
