To the Editor:

This year we celebrated the 30th anniversary of the Good Ol' Days with a festival that surpassed our expectations!

Good Ol' Days is an event that brings our community together in various venues to experience some great entertainment, allows an opportunity for different groups and organizations to earn money, and mostly provides an opportunity for our citizens to have a lot of fun. Besides that, Good Ol' Days brings economic development dollars into our community as visitors buy gas and food, stay in motels and experience the offerings of this great community.

I want to thank everyone who helped in any way with this year's festival. First and foremost, I want to thank all of those who donated funding for this year's event. Without these donations, Good Ol' Days would not survive and we thank all of the businesses and individuals who give monetarily and in-kind gifts. Next, I want to thank the Good Ol' Days Steering Committee and all of the chairmen and workers of all the various events. Hundreds of volunteers give of their time and hard work to make the festival possible.

A big thanks to all of our downtown merchants for accommodating the changes to the downtown area for a few days!

A special thanks to Police Chief Ron Puterbaugh and the Public Works, Police and Fire departments of the city of Fort Scott; City Manager Dave Martin and the City of Fort Scott and the Memorial Hall staff; the Fort Scott Chamber; Fort Scott National Historic Site; Fort Scott Community College; Ward-Kraft Printing and Sekan Printing; Gary Palmer; Billy Webster; Jim and Paulette Smith and Jill Gray; the Masonic Temple; the Fort Scott Tribune and KOMB radio; U.S. Cellular at Radio Shack; Key Industries; and Don Woods Moving. If there's anyone I have failed to mention, please know that we appreciate your hard work that contributed to the success of the weekend.

Please let us know your thoughts about the Good Ol' Days by completing an evaluation form on the website: www.fortscottgoodoldays.com.

It helps us in planning for next year's event which will be the 31st year. And as always, if you would like to help we always need volunteers!
