Betty Lou Walker, age 81, resident of Fort Scott, died Saturday, March 5, 2011, at Mercy Health Center.

She was born May 27, 1929, in Devon, the daughter of Sewell Alvin Sipe and Gladys Commons Sipe.

Betty married John L. Walker on Feb. 10, 1946, in Fort Scott.

She was retired following 39 years of employment in the claims department of Western Insurance Company.

Following retirement, she and her husband owned and operated Walker's Antiques and Collectibles, located on East Wall Street.

She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church and was active in the Bourbon County Historical Society.

Survivors include her husband, John, of the home; two sons, Johnnie Lee Walker and Carolyn and Jim A. Walker and wife Vicki, all of Fort Scott.

Also surviving are five grandchildren, Allison Leet and Lindsey VanLeeuwen and husband Blake, all of Pittsburg, Kan.; Amy Walker, Fort Scott; Shawn Walker and wife Beth, Lee's Summit, Mo.; and Libby Foster and husband Brett, Butler, Mo.; and six great-grandchildren with another to be born in the near future.

Pastor Gary DeMott will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 9, in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in Centerville Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
