No. 5 Eagles sweep

CHETOPA -- Uniontown's volleyball team, now ranked No. 5 in Class 3A, swept rival Marmaton Valley and Chetopa in a Three Rivers League triangular here Tuesday night.

Uniontown (5-1 TRL, 21-2 overall) moved into Class 3A in the latest enrollment figures released by the Kansas State High School Activities Association Monday. There were No. 1 in Class 2A before Northeast beat them last week. Ironically, Northeast went from being ranked No. 5 in 3A themselves to being unranked after Uniontown was moved up.

Scores against Marmaton Valley were 25-9, 25-13. Jacy Ermel had 4 kills and Hayden Rathbun recorded 4. Tayler Shook dished 6 assists and Tiffany Poyner was credited with 16 digs.

The Eagles swept Chetopa, 25-13, 25-3. Ermel had 10 kills, Shook 16 assists and Poyner 11 digs.

"We had a good evening of volleyball," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "The girls really worked at playing our game, passing, setting and attacking the ball."

Jessica Murrow served 11 aces in the Chetopa match. In the first game, she served 16 consecutive times then had a run of 20 consecutive serves in the second game.

The Eagles will be at Pleasanton next Tuesday for league play. Crest will also be there.
