Bourbon County 4-H members attend livestock show

Sixteen Bourbon County 4-H club members exhibited in the Kansas Junior Livestock Show in Wichita Sept. 24-26.

There were over 1,215 entries during this three day show held at the Kansas Coliseum. There were 114 steers, 245 heifers, 273 barrows, 219 lambs, 197 ewes, and 167 goats exhibited during the 78th Annual event.

Prior to the Auction of Champions, KJLS presented $18,900 in scholarships to 11 exhibitors. Kaitlyn Vincent received a $1200 scholarship, while Reed Gleason was awarded $1000.

Cheyenne Wiley had the Champion Hampshire market lamb. Chase Gleason stood first in his class of Simmental heifers, while Haden Cole had a class winning yearling commercial ewe.

Other top ten class winners from the county were: Hayden Cole -- 2nd in class of dark crossbred barrows, 10th in class of natural wethers; Dane Cummings -- 7th in class of light crossbred barrows; Bethany Ericson -- 4th in class of Angus heifers; Jonah Ericson -- 2nd in class of commercial heifers; Cole George -- 6th in Maine -- Anjou steer class and commercial heifer class; Drew George -- 9th in Shorthorn heifer class; Reed Gleason -- 5th in class of Angus heifers; Kaitlyn Hanks -- 6th in meat goat class and 8th in class of natural lambs; Jake Harvey -- 2nd in class of Duroc barrows and 10th in dark crossbred barrow class; Kaitlyn Harvey -- 4th and 10th in class of Duroc barrows; Clayton Nading -- 5th in class of Yorkshire barrows and dark AOB barrow class; Danielle Nading -- 8th in meat goat class; Jaxon Pitts -- 5th in class of Duroc barrows; Kaitlyn Vincent -- 4th in class of AOB heifers; Cheyenne Wiley -- 6th in class of crossbred lambs, 4th and 5th in commercial ewe lamb classes.
