Local residents encouraged to join National Walk @ Lunch Day in Fort Scott

Friday, April 23, 2010

Local residents are encouraged to join Walk Kansas participants for National Walk @ Lunch Day on April 27 and 28. Ann Ludlum, Walk Kansas program coordinator in Bourbon County, has organized walks during both days to encourage individuals to walk during their lunch time.

April 28 is the day designated as National Walk @ Lunch Day by the sponsor, Blue Cross and Blue Shield. Two days will be used locally for the convenience of workers, depending on their work location.

On both days the walk will be between 11:15 and 12:45. Walkers may join or leave the group at any time as their schedule permits. Those who walk will be entered in a drawing which will be held at the Walk Kansas program ending celebration on May 12.

On Tuesday, walkers may sign in at the pavilion on Main Street to walk the downtown area. Wednesday's walk will be at the Fort Scott Community College walking trail, with sign in at the school house.

There will be a nutritious beverage or snack for each participant when they finish their walk. Contact Ludlum at the Bourbon County Extension Office, 223-3720, for more information.
