TRL roundup: Eagle, Blu-Jay boys both winners

Both Uniontown and Pleasanton of the Three Rivers League were winners in boys' basketball action Friday night while Pleasanton girls fell to Drexel, Mo.

Uniontown was playing in the consolation round of the Yates Center Tournament and will play in the fifth-place game tonight. Pleasanton's teams were playing the final games of the annual round-robin Linn County Tournament at Jayhawk-Linn.

Uniontown boys 58, Sedan 31.

Drew Johnson led the Eagles (2-1) with 20 points as Uniontown dominated the middle two periods, outscoring Sedan 27-9. Zach Travis added nine points and David Shank scored eight.

Nine players scored for UHS, which will play Fredonia for fifth place tonight.

"I think our kids did a good job of bouncing back from a hard-fought loss Monday," Uniontown head coach Nathan Hinrichs said, referring to the Eagles' opening-round overtime loss to Erie.

Uniontown's girls were also set to play Friday night. They were also facing Sedan but that information did not reach the Herald-Tribune in time to make today's edition.

Pleasanton boys 55, Drexel 12.

Pleasanton (4-0) finished the tournament unbeaten as they routed the Bobcats in their final game. Tyler Myrick led the Blu-Jays with 17 points and also grabbed six rebounds. Daniel Barber added nine points while Joey Shoopman had eight rebounds.

Drexel 36, Pleasanton 25.

Blu-Jay girls (1-3) finished winless in the tournament after this loss. Rachel Richmond and Erika Easley each scored eight points for Pleasanton. Richmond also had 10 rebounds.

Both Pleasanton teams are idle until Thursday when they play in a Three Rivers League doubleheader at Chetopa.
