Ogran, Brown earn all-area status

Friday, October 24, 2008

Cassie Ogran and Kacie Brown were named to the All-SE-Kan golf team by area coaches Thursday morning.

The All-SE-Kan team serves to give girls' golf players season honors as none of the area schools have league play since not enough schools in each of the area leagues -- such as the Southeast Kansas League or the Three Rivers League -- have enough schools playing to allow their leagues to sanction the sport for championships.

Ogran, a senior, was named an All-Se-Kan First Team player. She had the eighth-best scoring average among area players with a 434. Brown, a sophomore, was an Honorable Mention player with her average of 441.

Tie-breaker steps were used and these tie-breakers broke a tie for the 10th position, which was the last one for First Team Honors. Columbus' Lyndsey Vanatta won the tie-breaker for 10th place even though she, Brown and Girard's Tessa Westhoff all had the same average.

The First Team was, by order of average, Columbus' Lacie Hale, with the top average of 370, Pittsburg Colgan's Maggie Sloan, Caney Valley's Lyndsay Roper and Paige Chaffin, Fredonia's Lindsay Wait, Girard's Starr McLeod, Caney's Cassie Cunningham, Ogran, and Columbus' Cassie Stanley and Lyndsey Vanatta. Brown, Westhoff, Caney's Lindsay Testerman and McKenzie Rolls and Fredonia's Mslissa Ashenfelter were the Honorable Mention golfers.
