Kay L. Atha, 68, of Arma, died at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 24, 2007, at her home.

Mrs. Atha was born Aug. 29, 1939 at Newton, Kansas, the daughter of Robert West and Margaret LaGree Cunningham. Kay was a homemaker and had been a resident of Arma since 1968. She was raised in Pittsburg and graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1957. She married James. C. Atha on Dec. 4, 1967 in Pittsburg. Mr. Atha survives of the home.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg, the American Legion Auxiliary in Arma, and the Golden Era. Additional survivors include a daughter, Evelyn Atha of Pittsburg, a son, Chuck Atha of Pittsburg, a step-daughter, Cathy Stanley of Pittsburg, her mother, Margaret Cunningham of Pittsburg, a brother, James Cunningham of Overland Park, three step-grandchildren, and six step-great-grandchildren.

Kay was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Brenda Kay Atha and her father, Robert West Cunningham.

According to her wishes, Mrs. Atha has been cremated. Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, 2007, at the Bedene Funeral Home in Arma with the Rev. Jim Hargett officiating. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. to service time Friday at the Bedene Chapel. Burial of the cremains will be at a later date at the National Cemetery in Fort Scott. The family suggests memorials to the Lon Helm Post No. 182 American Legion in Arma or the First Baptist Church in Pittsburg.
