Eagles earn two medals at Nevada

NEVADA -- Uniontown had two medalists after battling three other teams and a strong south wind at the Frank Peters Municipal Golf Course here Monday.

The Eagles saw Kiersten Elder finish fourth in the nine-hole affair with a score of 54 while Taylor Hanson earned her first medal of the season with her fifth-place score of 57.

"Kiersten had a big score on one hole today," Uniontown head coach Alan Shinn said. "That kept her from going below 50. She was very consisten from the tee box, hitting eight of the nine fairways.

"Taylor was able to one-putt three different greens and, except for a big score on one hole, could have scored even lower. She was able to recover on the next shot after a bad show. She posted a score today that I hope she will continue to do in the future."

Hanson's score was a personal best for nine holes -- and 10 strokes under her previous season nine-hole best shot last week at Eureka -- as was the 88 turned in by Raven Hixon. Emily Pulliam rounded out team scoring with a 103.

"We are improving each time out even though it is not always evident in our scores," Shinn said."

The Eagles finished in third place with a four-woman score of 302. Host Nevada was the team champ with a 210, followed by Girard at 280. Seneca, Mo., finished fourth at 308.

The top three individual spots went to Nevada golfers. Heather Klingaman took first with a 49 followed by Melea Galimberton and Chelsea Turner. They both shot 51 with Galimberton receiving the higher place on a scorecard playoff.

The Eagles will be on their home course, Fort Scott Country Club, this afternoon for the make-up of the Fort Scott Invitational that was rained out Sept. 4. They will also travel to Fredonia Thursday.

NOTES -- Although just about every competitor had completed two holes before thunderstorms caused the Fort Scott tourney to be called off two weeks ago, it was decided then to just go ahead and start completely over in the make-up this afternoon....
