Junior varsity volleyball take fifth

Fort Scott High School's junior varsity volleyball team took fifth place in the Southeast Kansas League Junior Varsity Voleyball Tournament at the FSHS gymnasium and at Buck Run Community Center Saturday.

The Tigers finished in the fifth place in the tournament. They were 1-1 in pool play.

Parsons defeated Fort Scott in the first match of the day, 25-22, 25-13. JV head coach Treva Williams said that the Tigers struggled with passing off serves in the second game.

The Tigers beat Independence, 14-25, 25-19, 25-23. They rallied from four points down to win in the third game.

The 1-1 record in pool play put the Tigers into the fourth-place pool with Chanute and Iola. Fort Scott defeated Chanute in three games, 25-20, 15-25, 25-20. But the Tigers lost to Iola, 25-16, 25-22.

The Tiger JV will split up Thursday. The starters will go to Coffeyville to play a triangular with Parsons also in attendance. Some of the other players will take on Uniontown's JV at the FSHS gymnasium.

NOTES -- The varsity team will also be at Coffeyville as Southeast Kansas League play begins....

The junior varsity will also take part in a tournament at Independence Saturday....
