Marriage, death, open houses in Arcadia

Christa McMullen and Brent Zeller were united in marriage on July 21, 2007 in the Arcadia Christian Church. The ceremony was performed by Pastor David Peterson.

Christa's Uncle, Robert Spears from Waco, Texas had the honor of walking her down the aisle. The Maid of Honor was her cousin, Melissa Chevalier of Lake Charles, Louisiana. Flower Girl was Christa's daughter, Jillian. The Best Man was Jeff Zeller, father of the Groom from Higginsville, Mo.

The Bridesmaid was Melissa Due, a sister to the Groom from Lexington, Mo. Groomsman was Brent's step brother, Justin Zeller

Others present were Georgia Spears and son Brandon, Waco, Texas, Wendy Zeller, Higginsville, Mo.; Eric, Parker and Reece Due and Chelsi Riley, and bride's mother, Pam McMullen all from Lexington, Mo. The groom's mother, Betty Dehn and husband, Lou Dehn of Arcadia; Kathy Kerbow and John Dobson from Richmond, Mo. Friends of the couple from the church were Mae Watt, Gary and Patty Peterson and Mary V. Shead.

The reception was held in the bungalow following the wedding ceremony. The Best Man and Maid of Honor toasted the happy couple. Mr. and Mrs. Brent Zeller left Arcadia to spend their first night in Joplin, Mo. Their home will be in Lexington, Mo.

Allen and Linda Watt of Wichita spend the weekend in Arcadia and attended the Arcadia Christian Church on Sunday Morning with his mother, Mae Watt. They returned to their home on Sunday afternoon following dinner in the home.

Allen's brother, Delton Watt Jr., wife Billi and Joseph left Burnet, Texas last weekend for Fayette, Mo. to their new home. While in the Kansas City area, they had lunch with his brothers, Tom and Phyllis Watt and Bill Watt.

As the traveling brothers reached their destinations, they called Arcadia to assure their mother they were safe at home.

Saturday evening, July 21, AHS Our Gang met for their Monthly gathering in Arcadia Community Center with 25 present for the cookout headed by Mr. and Mrs Bill Buchanan. As one member reported, "they even had fudge." They now have a Memorial fund to use when the occasion calls for special times. For the August meeting the menu will be catered chicken.

Community Outreach from Girard Medical Center will be doing free blood pressure screenings on Aug. 13, 2007 between 11 and 12 p.m. just before dinner is served at Autumn Leaves Senior Citizens meeting in their cottage in Arcadia. All are welcome.

The Open House at Arma Care Center was a very special occasion with close to 200 people in attendance. The food was delicious and entertainment special but best of all was the fellowship among the many present. Pastor David Peterson of Arcadia took folks from his church including Herman Tyler, Helen Sisney, Mae Watt and Mary V. Shead for the evening.

Among the many friends the Arcadians visited were Jan Mayfield and her Mother, Leona Mayfield and son Merle Mayfield, Kathreen Kunstel, Maria Rodich, Fannie Wosell and Sonny, Peachy Bedene and Barry Bedene, Tony and Ruth Zemlock, Buddy and Becky Bualle, Janelle Bunney, Judy Rawlings Barbara Scott, Madeline Yartz, Margaret Kennedy and Norine Laird and many more they could not name.

The Sunday evening on July 22 when there was a Cookout for Kids at Arcadia Community Center, at least 50 kids were in attendance. Helpers for Diann and Paul Starne were Scottie and Joyce Stephens, Betty Payne family, Jim and Pat Krieger, Lee Stroud, Thelma Medley and patrolman, Bob Moore. The next community gathering of this kind will be Aug. 19. All are invited to attend.

Arcadia Christian Church on last Sunday of July, birthday offering was given for Parker Due and 10th anniversary in honor of his Grandparents, Betty and Lou Dehn. Linda Watt of Wichita gave a testimony. Pastor David Peterson based his sermon on the Book of Jeremiah. Prayer list included Bill Skidmore who recently had back surgery in Wichita, Charles Hoggatt in Florida who is taking treatment for lung cancer, Vera and John Parrish who have not been feeling well and Doug Nuzum in Wichita who is soon to leave the hospital.

Pastor told of Kenneyn Baldwin a youth in the church who attends the Day Care Center run by the Youth Minister at Community Christian Church in Fort Scott. She is a delight to her friends and teachers.

Ruth Holland of Liberal received word of the death of a former Arcadian, Vera Chartier who died July 25 in Oklahoma. While their children were growing up the Chartier family lived in the C.J. Nichols house at Nelson and Vine. They owned and operated a grocery store downtown Arcadia in the l950's. Ruth was their baby sitter. Her husband, Earl Chartier, preceded her in death
