James "Jim" Stevens
James "Jim" Stevens of Nederland, Colo., passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2022 at the age of
74. He was born in Olney, Ill., to Charles Stevens and Elaine Pelltiin. Jim is survived by his wife Debbie Hughes, daughters Jennifer and Megan Stevens, and Julie Ward, brothers Larry and Rick Stevens, four grandchildren, four nephews, four nieces, eight great-nephews and 12 great-nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Linda Stanclift.
Jim graduated from Olney High School in 1967, from Wabash Valley College in 1970 and Sangamon State University in 1977. In 1977 Jim and Debbie traveled around the U.S. on their Gold Wing motorcycle in search of the best place to live before eventually settling in Olney. Ill. It was there that Jim started his life long career as a city manager. Others cities Jim served as city manager were Orange Park, Fla., Fort Scott, Kan., Forsyth, Ill., Greenville, Ill., and Nederland, Colo. He was also the economic development director in Chanute, Kan. After 35 years of public service he retired in Nederland. His hobbies included golf, wood working, fly fishing, painting, motorcycling, camping, LA Dodgers, home brewing and started a Nano Brewery shortly before cancer struck.
