Paul Carroll Simonds
Paul Carroll Simonds, 86, Lansing, Kan., formerly of Kansas City, Kan., and Fort Scott, Kan., passed away Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, in a tragic fall.
Paul was born July 18, 1933 in Deming, N.M., to Daniel Parker and Rachel Harriet (née Mills) Simonds.
Paul was influenced strongly by his grandmother, Isabell Mills. She made sure he memorized scripture and gave him a strong love of God. He continued in his faith, graduating from Northwest Christian College in Eugene, Ore., and was ordained in 1955.
Paul married Helen Irene Huebner in 1959. They made their lives in various places in New Mexico, where he worked for Standard Oil and ministered at several churches. They also lived in Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, and Illinois.
Paul took a position at Newton, Ill. In 1975, the family moved back to Kansas. He was employed by the state in 1989 in Fort Scott, Kan., where he also ministered at Mapleton Christian Church until retirement.
After his wife, Helen, died in 2007, Paul married long-time family friend Ann Westfall Koch in 2008 and moved to Kansas City, Kan. Paul brought his wife to Christ in 1985 and shared his faith with everyone, and became an elder at Wyandotte Christian Church.
Paul is survived by his wife Ann, of the home, a sister Bertha (Leonard)
Hachinsky of Kansas City, Kan., sister-in-law Mary Simonds Pitts of Fort Worth, Texas, sister-in-law Charlotte Huebner Partin of Bevier, Mo., sons Paul, Jr., of San Diego and Daniel (Sara) of Fort Scott, Kan., daughter Jeri Kropp of Fort Scott, Kan., four grandchildren Bobby and Amanda Kropp, Angelyka and Hadlee Simonds, many nieces and nephews and greats, Ann’s children Rod (Carolyn) Koch and Annie (Jeremy) Gillissen, six grandchildren Madison and Elizabeth Herron, Indigo and Cobalt Gillissen, Reece and Ryan Koch.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, John and Gerald, and Daniel, who
died in infancy.
A memorial service for Paul will be held on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at 2 p.m., Wyandotte County Christian Church,
