Everyone waits as citizens’ petition is reviewed
City officials are waiting before proceeding further after a petition was filed protesting the city’s proposed purchase of two fire trucks for the Fort Scott Fire Department.
Commissioners have in recent months heard details on financing a new pumper truck and aerial ladder truck for the fire department, which seeks to replace a 1992 pumper truck that is past its 20-year lifespan, and a 1993 ladder truck with a 25-year lifespan. In February, city officials began the process for replacing the trucks.
A group of citizens in recent weeks circulated a petition protesting issuance of general obligation bonds for the purchase. The petition cites a resolution and notice of intent approved by the Fort Scott City Commission in February declaring the city’s intent to acquire firefighting equipment and issue bonds.
