’Hound men finish Texas trip with 2 wins

Fort Scott Community College’s men finished its weekend trip to Texas with two wins. Following Thursday’s win at North Lake, which was summarized in Saturday’s edition, the Greyhounds took a 70-62 win at Brookhaven in overtime on Friday. Saturday, they were beaten in overtime by Eastfield, currently the No. 6-ranked team in NJCAA Division III.

The Greyhounds went 2-1 on their Texas swing and will enter the holiday break with a record of 9-8. They are idle until January 11, when they will face Metropolitan-Penn Valley at Kansas City, Kan.

Friday: Fort Scott 70, Brookhaven 62, OT.

The Greyhounds won the overtime period 10-2 after rallying from a 16-point halftime deficit to forced the extra session tied 60-60.

Craig Jordan made 8 of 9 shots from the field in leading Fort Scott with 21 points. Travis Zeno added 12 points.

Landen Stephens led the Division III Bears (8-8) with 19 points.

Fort Scott won the battle of the boards, 39-33, as Andre Nelson hauled down 9 boards. Nelson also dished out 5 assists.

Saturday: Eastfield 101, Fort Scott 99, OT.

Rashaun Coleman led Eastfield (15-3) with 33 points, making 17 of 20 free throws. All five starters and six in all reached double figures for the Harvesters.

Jordan led Fort Scott with 22 points and 12 rebounds. He connected on 8 of 13 shots from the floor. Zeno chipped in with 17 points followed by Kannon Jones, Kevin Shead, Jr. and Jeremiah August with 10 each.

Fort Scott held a 42-40 rebounding advantage. Zeno had 5 of the Greyhounds’ 21 assists.

Fort Scott made 30 of 37 free-throw attempts while Eastfield went 31 of 42. Eastfield’s foul total wasn’t available but the Greyhounds were called for 33 of them.
