Coffeyville eliminates Greyhounds
COFFEYVILLE — Defending NJCAA Division II National Champion Coffeyville began its defense of its title with a 3-0 win over Fort Scott Community College in the first round of the District N Tournament here Saturday.
The Red Ravens (36-3) eliminated the Greyhounds, 25-18, 25-23, 25-19. They went on to beat Cowley in the final, 25-13, 22-25, 21-25, 25-18, 15-7.
Brittany Barnekoff had 11 kills for Fort Scott. Sophie Mader handed out 28 assists. Emily Jackson came up with 15 digs while Mader had 11 and Abbie Casper came up with 10. Mader also had 5 blocks and Barnekoff assisted on 4 blocks.
Fort Scott’s season came to an end with a record of 25-14. Head coach Lindsay Hill now has a record of 203-94 in eight seasons at FSCC, the most wins by a Greyhound head coach. The six coaches who were here before her had a combined total of 204 wins over 19 seasons.
NOTES — In Saturday’s District M Tournament at Highland, the overall No. 1-seeded Scotties were stunned on their home court by Kansas City in the first round, 15-25, 25-23, 30-28, 22-25, 15-10). Fourth-seeded Johnson County went on to beat No. 5 Neosho County in the other first-round match, 18-25, 21-25, 25-12, 25-21, 15-10 and then down KCK in the final, 25-17, 25-23, 25-14.
Highland’s season ended at 34-3. Johnson County advances to the National Tournament with a record of 27-7....
