Fort Scott High School May graduate Trey Holston signed a letter of intent Tuesday afternoon to ride bulls for the Fort Scott Community College rodeo team this coming year.

Holston, who won the National High School Finals Rodeo championship in bull riding in 2017, said that being able to stay close to home and the FSCC rodeo team’s reputation were factors in deciding to sign with the Greyhounds.

“It’s a place I’ve been looking at for a long time,” Holston said shortly after he signed in FSCC’s rodeo building. “It really fits me for what I want to do.”

FSCC head coach Chad Cross said that “We were really excited to get Trey. We search all over the country but it’s huge to have a talent like this in your own back yard.”

Cross is hoping that Holston’s signing may be the first of many Bourbon Countians who have been showing signs of excellence on the high-school circuit.

“There’s plenty of talent in the county right now,” Cross said. “We’re looking to get them to come here just like Trey.”

Holston plans to major in business while at FSCC and carry that through to whichever four-year school he eventually chooses.

The fall portion of Fort Scott’s rodeo schedule begins with an event at Colby Sept. 14-16, according to the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association’s web site.
