Fort Scott High School’s baseball team dominated Labette County in a sweep of a Southeast Kansas League doubleheader at Dave Regan Stadium Friday, keeping their hold on second place in the league. But on Monday, the Tigers were swept at Paola in a non-league twinbill.

Fort Scott is 7-2 in the SEK, 9-6 overall. First-place Pittsburg, which beat Baxter Springs Monday, is 5-1, 8-4. Labette County fell to 2-4, 5-6.

Friday: Fort Scott 14-9, Labette County 4-0.

Three of the four LCHS runs scored in the opener on a first-inning home run to the third batter of the game. Other than that, Kieran Houlihan (1-1) allowed 5 total hits, didn’t walk anyone and struck out 5 as he pitched all five innings of a run-ruled game.

Houlihan was also 2 for 4 at the plate. Gage Wilson was 3 for 3. Brady Masters drove in 3 runs.

Alec Michaud walked to lead off the Tigers’ half of the first, stole second, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Masters’ sacrifice fly.

In the second, Houlihan led off with a hit. He moved up on a fielder’s choice. Chandler Defebaugh singled to left. Wilson’s double scored Houlihan and Defebaugh scored on another groundout. Bowles got on when the shortstop had no play on his ground ball, which kept Wilson at third. Wilson scored on an error by the catcher on a pickoff play. Bowles also came around while the ball was being retrieved. Michaud walked and stole second again. Ty Gorman reached on an error. Matt Campbell’s single scored Michaud and Gorman came in on the same play on an error, making the score 7-3.

Michaud did not have an official at-bat in the game as he walked four times. But he also scored 3 runs. He walked twice and scored twice in game two, finishing the evening 0 for 1 with an RBI over the course of two games.

Bowles (2-0) allowed only 3 hits and didn’t walk anyone while striking out 2 as he went all seven innings.

Fort Scott scored 3 in the bottom of the first. Michaud was hit by a pitch leading off the inning and moved to second on a passed ball. Gorman and Masters hit consecutive singles, the latter scoring Michaud while Gorman went to third. Campbell singled in Gorman with Masters going to third, then later scoring on a double-play ball.

Campbell was 3 for 3 while Witt and Gorman were each 3 for 4.

Monday: Paola 6-5, Fort Scott 2-1.

Paola (8-3) won the opener with a single run in the bottom of the seventh inning and the second game with 2 runs in the bottom of the second.

Masters led off the fifth, reached on an error, stole second, took third on a groundout and scored on a wild pitch, tying the score 4-4.

Wilson led off the sixth with a single, took second on a groundout and scored on Michaud’s hit to tie the score again, 5-5.
