Alma A. Swanwick, 91, of Oswego, passed away at 12:50 a.m., March 26, 2018 at her home.

She was born July 28, 1926 in Edna, Kan., to Frank Leslie and Minnie Mae (Banzet) McCorkle. As a young child, she moved with her family to Carl Junction, Mo., where she grew up and attended school. Alma was a 1944 graduate of Carl Junction High School.

Prior to marriage, she worked at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons. On July 10, 1945, she and Francis D. “Sonny” Swanwick were married in Miami, Okla. They lived their entire married life on farms within a five-mile radius northwest of Oswego until recently moving into town.

In earlier years, she was a member of the 101 Diamond Quilting Club. Alma especially enjoyed attending her sons’ and grandchildren’s activities, visiting with family and friends, helping on the farm, traveling, quilting, doing embroidery, and bird watching. In earlier years, she enjoyed square dancing and was a member of the Kansas Cattlewomen.

Three Sons – Daryl Keith Swanwick and his wife, Nancy, of Fort Scott, Kan.

Roger Lynn Swanwick of Wann, Okla.

Duane Ray Swanwick and his wife, Traci Lynne, of Alma, Kan.

Six grandchildren – Matthew Swanwick, Daniel Swanwick, Mark Swanwick, Jessica Swanwick, Elisha Dilbeck, and Elizabeth Swanwick

Nine great-grandchildren

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Leo, Leon, and Laverne McCorkle.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 30, 2018 at the Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home in Parsons. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until service time, Friday, at the funeral home.
