Johnson County sweeps Greyhounds
Visiting Johnson County — the women ranked No. 12 in NJCAA Division II, the men already Jayhawk Conference-Division II champions — came to Arnold Arena Wednesday night and posted a sweep.
Johnson County’s women pulled away after a tied first quarter for an 87-54 win over the Greyhounds. Based on standings at the time of publicaton, Fort Scott (0-7 conference, 2-7 Region VI, 12-14 overall) will be the No. 5 seed in the Region VI Tournament and play a first-round game at Kansas City Kansas Wednesday night. KCK (20-9) has already beaten FSCC twice this season.
Johnson County’s men took a 64-59 victory, which ended the Greyhounds’ hopes of earning a first-round bye in post-season play. Fort Scott (3-4, 5-4, 19-10) is set as the No. 3 seed as Highland (6-2, 7-2, 22-7) is now two games ahead with only Saturday’s game between the two at Arnold Arena remaining.
Greyhound men will get a first-round home game on Wednesday, Feb. 28, most likely against Kansas City (1-6, 1-8, 8-12), which is a game behind Hesston for the No. 5 seed but would lose the tie-breaker anyway because the Larks swept the season series. If Fort Scott wins that game, they’ll have to go on the road for a second-round game at Highland on Saturday, March 3.
