Basehor-Linwood tourney proves tough for Tigers

BASEHOR — The Basehor-Linwood Bobcat Classic, which included nine ranked Kansas schools in its 33-team lineup, proved tough for Fort Scott High’s wrestlers here over the weekend.

Only one of the Tigers was able to win a match. — Silas Taylor in a 132-pound consolation match. Taylor was pinned by Michael Daniels of Bonner Springs in his first-round match. He drew a bye in consolation and then pinned Chapman’s Chris Lockwood. Taylor was pinned in the next round by Wil Jameson of Pittsburg and eliminated.

Seven of the top eight finishers in the team standings are ranked in the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association poll this week including champion Goddard, No. 1 in Class 5A, runner-up Olathe North, No. 2 in 6A, and third-place Bonner Springs, No. 3 in 4A.

A home triangular with Columbus and Iola was called off Tuesday due to the inclement weather. The Tigers will go to Paola for a tournament on Friday.
