Indians 18s win 2 of 3 in showcase

The Kansas Indians 18-and-under team won 2 of 3 games last weekend as Fort Scott Community College hosted the last of its three showcases of the summer.

The Indians (19-11-1) lost to the Oklahoma Reds on Saturday, 8-0. They were held to just 2 hits, one each by Cooper Bradbury and Tyler Gorman. A game earluer Saturday against the Complete Game Nationals was called off due to rain.

In their first game on Sunday, the Indians used an 8-run first inning to run rule MNS, 13-3. Alec Michaud had 3 hits and 3 runs batted in. Kurt Golubsky and Chandler Defebaugh had 2 hits each. Defebaugh drove in 3 runs while Brody Bowles and Gunnar Brown each drove in 2.

Golubsky pitched a complete game, allowing no earned runs on 3 hits and 5 walks while striking out 2.

The Indians scored a total of 9 runs in the fifth and sixth innings of their second game on Sunday to defeat the Diamond Kings, 14-9. The Kings led 9-5 after three.

Bowles was 3 for 5 with 4 runs batted in while Kieran Houlihan went 3 or 4 and Cooper Bradbury was 3 for 3. Michaus was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI. Golumsby and Defebaugh also drove in 2 runs each.

Defebaugh was the winning pitcher as he allowed no runs in the final 2 1/3 innings on one hit.

The Indians have this week off and will play their final tournament July 20-23 in Lawrence.
