Marjorie Leone (Fisher) Duerson

Marjorie Leone (Fisher) Duerson, 92, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on April 3, 2017. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 6 and services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, April 7, 2017, both at Resthaven Mortuary Chapel with interment immediately following.

Marjorie was born in Fort Scott, Kan., Feb. 6, 1925 to Grace Wyatt Fisher and Virgil M. Fisher. After graduating from Fort Scott High School, she worked for the Western Insurance Company. She married the love of her life, Harold Lynn Duerson on Jan. 28, 1945 shortly before Harold left for military service in the U.S. Army. During the time Harold was stationed in Japan, Marjorie would write him a letter each and every day and would walk to the post office every evening to mail it. Upon his return, Marjorie and Harold farmed and raised livestock in Bourbon County for several years before moving to Wichita in 1952 where Harold began his 36 years of employment for Derby Refining.

Preceded in death by her parents; and her loving husband of 68 years. Marjorie is survived by her brother, Vern (Karen) Fisher of Hale's Corner, Wisc.; two sisters, Nelda (Dean) Beth of Gilbertsville, Ky., and Retta (Glenn) Smith of Bronson, Kan.; her three devoted daughters, Carolyn (Robert) Goree, Janice (Tom) Wakefield and Ellen (Arlyn) Fagen, all of Wichita; five grandchildren, Rachel (Daniel) Jansen of Derby, Kan., Brenda (Mac) Welch of New York City, N.Y., Aaron (Innette) Fagen of Orlando, Fla., Clinton (Jolene) Fagen of Shawnee, Kan., and Emily (Brandon) Bahl of Wichita, Kan.; and 10 great grandchildren, Victoria Jansen, Kiser Jansen, Tatiana, Jaden, Colton, Jacob and Elaina Fagen, Lauren and Logan Niss and Liam Welch. Marjorie loved cooking and was known by her great grandchildren as the "Best Cinnamon Roll Baker" in the world! She was an accomplished seamstress who made her daughters’ clothes, including formal dresses for countless high school dances. Her sewing machine had more miles on it than the family car. She thoroughly enjoyed music. She played the organ and loved to sing. Until the very end, she was singing her favorite hymns in the hospital. Marjorie and Harold never lost their love for farming and raised the most amazing garden every year. One of their greatest joys came from their many travels across the USA in their motor home affectionately known as "Molly." Harold and Marjorie were extremely active in Wesley United Methodist Church for almost 40 years before its closing. Marjorie is a member of the Aldersgate United Methodist Church. The family wishes to express their profound appreciation to the caring staff of Select Specialty Care at Via Christi St. Francis Hospital. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials with Aldersgate United Methodist Church Music Department, 7901 W. 21st St. N., Wichita, KS 67205 and the American Lung Association, 2024 N. Woodlawn - #114, Wichita, KS. 67208. Condolences may be offered at: www.resthavenmortuary-cemetery.com.
