'Hounds take opening series

Fort Scott Community College baseball opened the season with a series win over Cloud County at Dave Regan Stadium over the weekend.

The teamssplit on Saturday with Fort Scott winning game one 12-2. The Thunderbirds took the second game, 18-9. Sunday, Fort Scott prevailed, 5-2.

Justin O'Laughlin went all 7 innings on the mound in Saturday's opener. He allowed 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 10.

Ben McConell and Mackay Williams each hit home runs for the Greyhounds. Williams was 2 for 4 with 3 runs batted in. Both homers came during a 10-run third inning.

The Greyhounds held a 3-0 lead after two innings of the second game with the aid of a 2-RBI single to center by Mitch Sloan and an RBI single by Danny Crews. But a grand slam by Jacob Grady was part of a T-Bird 9-run top of the third that gave them the lead for good.

Cloud County took the initial lead in Sunday's game, scoring once in the top of the second inning. Fort Scott took over in the bottom of the inning with 4 runs. Quinn Waterbury gave Fort Scott the lead when his single to right scored Brandon Krennrich and Andrew Morrow, each of whom singled to start the inning.

Kennrich, Waterbury, Sloan and McConell each had 2 hits for Fort Scott.

The Greyhounds will play at Dave Regan Stadium Saturday and Sunday against North Central Missouri. Doubleheaders on both days will begin at 1 p.m.
