Celebrating Kansas Day
Saturday, January 28, 2017
Retired educator Shirley Palmer shows first grade students from Winfield Scott Elementary School a lunch pail that would have been used by students in the late 1800s during a Kansas Day activity Friday at the one-room Fort Lincoln School. The school was established in 1870. Kansas Day is celebrated annually on Jan. 29 to commemorate the anniversary of the 1861 admission of Kansas into the Union. Annual celebrations by schools include field trips and other special projects and activities related to the history of Kansas.
