Uniontown splits with Jayhawk-Linn; girls win

UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown's basketball teams split a Three Rivers League doubleheader with Jayhawk-Linn here Tuesday night. The girls prevailed, 42-33, over the Jayhawks while the boys fell, 43-40.

Shalina Harper led Eagle girls (1-2 TRL, 5-7 overall) with 16 points while also grabbing 8 rebounds and handing out 4 assists. Holly Shinn scored 11 points to go along with 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Danielle Young also had 5 rebounds.

"I am extremely proud of our team's resolve to finally finish a game," Uniontown head coach Dustin Miller said. "Several girls stepped up to help insure that we would end the night on top."

Jayhawk-Linn fell to 0-3, 4-7 at the varsity level. The Jayhawks did win the junior varsity contest, 21-20. Maddie Ard led the Eagles with 4 points.

Jayhawk-Linn boys (3-0, 8-3) held off Uniontown in the fourth quarter, outscoring the Eagles 12-10. Garrett Elder led the Eagles (2-1, 7-5) with 18 points while Ben George added 15.

Both Uniontown teams continue league play Friday night when they travel to Colony to take on Crest in another doubleheader.
