Dunn announces she will resign as county treasurer
A day after being sworn in, Bourbon County Treasurer Rhonda Dunn announced she will be taking a new job with the city of Fort Scott.
During Tuesday's Bourbon County Commission meeting, Dunn said she will become the city codes manager for codes enforcement.
County Clerk Kendell Mason said she was contacting the Secretary of State's office to learn what steps will need to be taken to replace Dunn.
Even though she was just sworn in, because of unique deadlines in treasurers' offices, Dunn's term began Oct. 1.
Tuesday afternoon, Dunn told the Tribune that typically, because she is a Republican, the local Republican committee would name her replacement.
"There's a lot of rules that goes into that and Kendell is looking into those," Dunn said.
No date has been set for her resignation from the county. She said there are several state deadlines to meet in the treasurer's office first. She has already been approved to work part-time for the county and she and City Manager Dave Martin will work out "the best plan" for her transition into full-time employment with the city.
"I'm real excited, but it was a real hard decision for me," Dunn said. "I think I've made a lot of progress with the county and I think there's a lot of work the city can do with the county. And the new treasurer could make a lot of progress, too."
