Ronald Joe "Ron" Holmes

Ronald Joe "Ron" Holmes, age 58 of Joplin, Mo., passed away Monday, Nov. 21, 2016 at his home following a short illness.

Ron was born Jan. 24, 1958 in Lafayette, Ind., to the late Phillip Holmes and Helen Mattingly Holmes. Prior to illness, Ron worked as a mixer for Annie's Bakery in Joplin. He graduated high school from Jefferson High in Lafayette, Ind. Ron was an avid Chicago Cubs fan as well as doing anything outdoors. He enjoyed hunting fishing, bird watching, but most importantly, his grandchildren were his pride and joy.

On Aug. 3, 1979, Ron married Gloria Atkinson in Joplin and she survives of the home.

Additional survivors include a son, Jason Holmes and wife, Trisha of West Point, Ind.; step sons, Greg Jones and wife, Wendy and Ronnie Brown, all of Lafayette; step daughter, Kim Barrick and husband, Steve of Midway, Ga.; grandchildren, Cody Bishop, Skyler Barrick, Cohlsen, Brady and Layla Holmes; brothers, Terry Holmes and wife, Vicki of Eustis, Fla., Roger Holmes and wife, Cinda of Girard, Kan.; sister, Jenny Glenn of Irving, Texas; plus many extended family and friends.

Funeral services are planned for Friday, Nov. 25 at 3 p.m. with visitation to start at 2 p.m. up to service time. Burial will take place on Monday, Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice Compassus in care of the mortuary.
