Ronald Glenn Billiard, age 76, resident of Fort Scott, died unexpectedly on Monday morning, Nov. 14, 2016, at the Mercy Hospital emergency room. He was born Dec. 8, 1939 in Pittsburg, Kan., the son of Glenn Billiard and Doris Scott. Ron was reared by his grandfather Rollin Scott and his aunt Opal Scott. He was a 1957 graduate of Arcadia High School. He attended both the Fort Scott Community College and Pittsburg State University. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army. Ron began work in 1964 for Mr. Bill Hammer in the Hammer Insurance Agency. He purchased the agency in 1984 renaming it Billiard Hammer Insurance Agency. Ron retired in 2007 with his son-in-law taking over the Billiard Hammer Hartman Insurance Agency. Ron married Karen Sue Covey on Oct. 1, 1960 in Fort Scott. He and Karen were charter members of Community Christian Church, helping to start the church in 1972. He served for many years as elder. Ron's passion was refereeing sports. He loved to referee high school and college basketball. He also refereed Big Eight college basketball. He also loved the game of golf. He was part of his golf group that played every week as well as various courses throughout the States. Ron was a past president of the Rotary Club, member of the Fort Scott Chamber also a member of the Rising Sun Masonic Lodge No. 8 A.F.&A.M., Fort Scott Scottish Rite and the Mirza Shrine of Pittsburg.
