'Hound volleyball tested at Lincoln Land
SPRINGFIELD, Illinois -- Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team, ranked No. 17 in NJCAA Division II, met three of the division's top-five teams here last weekend at the Lincoln Land Invitational.

Fort Scott's first match on Friday was against Southeast, Neb., which is just 5-27 this season. The Greyhounds (24-10) won that in three sets, 25-14, 25-18, 25-15, as Brette Moore registered 13 kills and Megan Turner came up with 12. Mickey Trimble, the national leader in assists per set, handed out 41 of them and Katie Gorman, fifth in the nation in digs per set, picked up 19.
The second Friday match pitted Fort Scott against No. 1-ranked Parkland, Ill. (42-2), the defending Division II national champion, losing 25-23, 25-15, 25-16. Turner led the 'Hounds with 8 kills and 9 digs. Trimble had 26 assists. Fia Willhs had 14 kills for Parkland.
Saturday's first match was against Catawba Valley, N.C. (34-5), ranked No. 4, and finished with a 25-17, 25-8, 25-17 loss. Turner had 7 kills, Trimble 24 assists and Gorman 16 digs.
The final opponent was No. 5-ranked Lincoln Land, Ill., the host school and runner-up last year to Parkland. The Loggers (32-7) won 25-19, 27-25, 25-20. Moore had 10 kills, Trimble 33 assists and Gorman 22 digs.
The Greyhounds will play their final home match of the season tonight at 6:30 in Arnold Arena against Kansas City Kansas in Jayhawk Conference action.
