'Hounds 4-0 in home event

Fort Scott Community College's volleyball team, ranked No. 14 in NJCAA Division II, won all four of its matches in a home event at Arnold Arena over the weekend.

Fort Scott's first challenge was against Division III No. 4-ranked Brookhaven College Friday afternoon. The Greyhounds won in four sets, 25-12, 20-25, 25-11, 25-23.

Freshman libero Katie Gorman, a Fort Scott High School graduate, picked up 23 digs for the 'Hounds (4-0). Sophomore setter Mickey Trimble handed out 43 assists. Megan Turner led in kills with 9 followed by Kayln Beel and Keyshia Perez with 8 each. Bell also had 2 blocks while Turner had 14 digs and served 5 aces and Perez had 11 digs.

Fort Scott downed Jayhawk Conference-Division II rival Neosho County Friday night, 25-22, 25-17, 24-26, 25-22. Turner had 19 kills and Perez finished with 13. Trimble dished 58 assists. Gorman came up with 25 digs while Turner had 15.

Saturday afternoon, the 'Hounds swept Ottawa University's junior varsity, 25-13, 25-17, 25-17. Beel led with 9 kills while Turner and Deardin Kelley each had 7. Perez served 4 aces, Trimble recorded 38 assists and Gorman had 23 digs.

Saturday night, the Greyhounds swept another conference rival, Independence, 25-23, 25-17, 25-9. Turner had 9 kills while Michaela Pfaff had 7. Trimble handed out 33 assists. Beel served 3 aces and Gorman came up with 23 digs.

No. 6-ranked Coffeyville also participated in the event and was also 4-0, beating Brookhaven, the Ottawa JV and Independence in straight sets and Neosho County 3-2. The Ravens and Greyhounds did not face each other in the event as it wasn't a true tournament. But they will open Jayhawk Conference play against each other at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday night at Arnold Arena.
