The first scavenger hunt held at the Fort Scott National Historic Site brought out several families to look for clues around the fort, in spite of inclement weather Saturday.

Holly Baker, chief of interpretation and resource management, declared the Old Fort Quest a success.

"The FSNHS Youth Engagement Team would like to everyone who came out and braved the damp weather," Baker told the Tribune. "Everyone had a great time."

The idea of a scavenger hunt came from the FSNHS Youth Engagement Team, Baker said.

Scavenger hunt participants listened as the first clue was read by Youth Engagement Team Member Tayto Majors of Fort Scott. Then the hunt was on, with teams searching for the next clue, taking a photo of the clue with their phone, then following the clue to the next clue, with a total of 15 clues hunted and found.

No clues were placed among FSNHS artifacts; instead they were in an open public area, Baker said.

The first team back at the visitor center, where the first clue was given, was the winner.

The first place winners were a team comprised of family members Paige, Keira, Pat, and Krystal Nickelson of Fort Scott, who won $50.

A second family team of Joe, Leah, and Addi Wimmer of Fulton took home second place, a $25 prize.
