John Stanley Yoakum
John Stanley Yoakum, 86, formerly of Fort Scott and most recently of Valley Center, Kan., died Tuesday, June 14, 2016 in Wichita, Kan., at the Robert J. Dole VA Hospital. He was born July 14, 1929 in Niantic, Ill., the son of Merle Truman and Elsie Rachel (Denni) Yoakum. He married Virginia Lee Foster in Fort Scott, Kan., on April 4, 1952, and she preceded him in death Sept. 27, 2010.
He and Virginia had a son, Bradley Yoakum, on Dec. 25, 1952, and moved to Valley Center, Kan., shortly after. John served in Korea in the U.S. Army for the 11th ADN, 187 RCT. He was a former agent for KG&E.
Survivors include one brother, seven grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife Virginia, John was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, and his son.
Rev. Reed Hartford will conduct graveside services at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan., under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Family and friends will meet at the Funeral Home at 10:30 a.m. and leave for the cemetery at 11:15. Family and friends may sign the guest book at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W.
