James "Jim" Armstrong

James "Jim" Armstrong, 71, of Kansas City, Kan., passed away Saturday, April 30, 2016 surrounded by his family.

Jim was born October 14, 1944, in Los Angeles, Calif. He was a Transmission Line Designer for the Board of Public Utilities for 38 years retiring in 2005. Jim served 23 years in the US Army Reserves, retiring in 1996. He loved Hot Rods and was a member of The Golden Oldies Car Club, Truck Club of KC. Jim helped in coaching many baseball and softball teams with his children. He attended Open Door Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents Olyn and Edna Armstrong of Fort Scott, Kan. Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years, Roxie Armstrong; children, Cherie Armstrong, Jamie Vaughn, Angie Armstrong, Michael Armstrong, Joleene (Colby) Miller, Garen Armstrong; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; three 3 sisters, Karen Brown, Gayle Revis, Debbie Fletcher; and one brother, Robert Armstrong.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at Open Door Baptist Church, 3033 N. 103rd Terrace, Kansas City, Kan. 66109. Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, May 6, 2016 at Open Door with burial at Fort Scott National Cemetery, Fort Scott, Kan.
