Louisburg wins soccer playoff

LOUISBURG -- Seventh-seeded Louisburg shut out Fort Scott High's soccer team, 10-0, here Monday in a "play-in" game of the Class 4-3-2-1A East Regional Tournament.

Louisburg (5-10-2) advanced to a semifinal match this afternoon against second-seeded Independence (9-7). In today's other semifinal, sixth-seeded Paola (5-11) will play at Coffeyville (8-7). The winners face off Thursday.

The Tigers finished the season 2-15, the fewest wins in the history of the soccer program, which was started in 2000. The previous low was 3 wins in 16 matches in 2007.

Pittsburg (14-2) is the No. 1 seed in Class 5A Northeast Regional. The Purple Dragons will face No. 16 Topeka West (1-15) this afternoon.
