Tiger cross country wins a lot at Indy

INDEPENDENCE -- Fort Scott High's cross country team won three individual titles and a team title here Thursday.

Tiger varsity girls won the team title with 40 points, well ahead of the 59 by second-place Independence. Fort Scott was led by Cassidy Westhoff's winning time of 18:31.66. McKenzie Willis of Pittsburg was a distant second at 20:15.38.

Mallory Westhoff finished sixth for the Tigers in 21:52.06 and Grace Willis took ninth in 22:21.09. Chavis Berkley was 16th in 22"58.72, Emma Davis 22nd in 23:35.58, Kelsey Carpenter 23rd in 23:38.66, Kaylee Coombs 25th in 24:04.56, and Clare Gorman 34th in 25:30.47.

Devin Brooks won the boys race in a time of 17:29.25. Connar Southard of Pittsburg was second in 17:58.38.

Garrett Tatro finished 16th in 19:24.44 for the Tigers followed by Gavin Smith in 30th in 20:21.81, Nick Shelton 33rd in 20:32.41, Joe Adams 36th in 20:55.69, and Ben Morris 66th in 24:32.22.

Pittsburg won the team title with 28 points. Iola was second with 51 points while Fort Scott was third with 103 points.

Lexi Bryant won the girls' junior varsity race with a time of 24:18.25. Oliva Taylor of Iola was second in 24:44.50. Also for the Tigers, Alyx Brooks was eighth in 29:38.18, Melonie Harper 10th in 29:56.78, Kylie Bruner 11th in 30:16.25, Mackenzie Ragan 13th in 30:53.44, Emily Willis 15th in 34:25.94, Olivia Houston 17th in 35:01.38, Audra McFarland 19th in 36:21.09, and Mary Gladbach 20th in 39:20.62. The Tigers won the team title with a perfect score of 15 points but none of the other schools had enough runners to field a full team.

Ryan Miller place ninth for Fort Scott in the boys' JV race in 24:47.22 while Kaden Kiwan was 17th in 28:52.09.

Fort Scott competes in the Southeast Kansas League meet Thursday.
