Carolyn Mae Black, 82, of Mound City, Kan., died at 1:35 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015 at Olathe Medical Center. Carolyn was born June 10, 1933 in Pleasanton, Kan., to Hughie Ulysses and Margaret Ethel (Norbury) Black. In 1951, Carolyn graduated from Pleasanton High School. After working for a time at Western Gas Company, Carolyn began working at Prescott State Bank where she became executive vice president and a longtime board member. She also served as the secretary for the National Order of Rare Diseases. Carolyn was a selfless person who enjoyed cooking, baking, and sending cards and letters to loved ones. She enjoyed being outdoors and taking care of her birds. Carolyn also enjoyed collecting recipes and making scrapbooks for her grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the loves of her life. Carolyn will always be remembered by her kindness, thoughtfulness, sweet demeanor, and enduring dedication to all of her family. She had to battle through so much that life put in front of her, yet she never let it harden her or take away her kindness, which shows how strong she truly was. She will be forever loved and missed.
