The golf season got underway for Uniontown's program Thursday when it hosted a junior-varsity level "rookie" tournament at Woodland Hills Golf Course in Fort Scott.

The start of the tournament was delayed an hour due to a concern of possible rain but went off without a hitch.

"We played six of our eight girls in the JV meet and overall was very pleased with the results," Eagle head coach Jason Tourtillott said. "Megan Smith and Draven George we able to play well enough to medal.

"Our young girls struggled as we expected. We started practice last week and for several this is the first time they have been on a course and played. With that in mind expectations were get out do our best have some fun and look to make improvements based on how we performed."

The varsity portion of the schedule begins Tuesday with a tournament at Oswego. Labette County High School will be the host team.

"I have a really good group of kids to work with this year," Tourtillott says. "Like always we have our work cut out for us over the next month to make a lot of improvements."
