Laureta "Reta" Joiner Curtis, 86, of Liberty, Mo., and formerly of Richmond, Mo., died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2015 at the Ashton Court Nursing Home in Liberty.

Reta was born on Nov. 24, 1928 in Garnett, Kan., to Fredrick Allen and Lydia Ellen (Stroud) Large. She married Donald Ray Joiner of Richmond on Sept. 20, 1952. To this union two children were born, Michael Ray Joiner and Anita Bross. She later married Joe Curtis of Hardin, Mo., in September 1974.

Survivors include one daughter, Anita Bross of Liberty, Mo.; one sister, Maellen Gift of Fort Scott, Kan.; five grandchildren, Nick, Joe, David, Kirsten and Eric; and five great-grandchildren also survive.

In addition to her parents, Reta was preceded in death by one son, Michael Ray Joiner; five brothers, Clyde Large, Charles Large, Everette Large, Laverne Large and James Large; and two sisters, Clara Crystal and Nina Large.

Reta was a 1947 graduate of Fort Scott, Kan. She worked at Price Candy Factory in Richmond for several years. She had lived in Richmond, Kansas City and Hardin before moving to Liberty. Reta was a member of the Richmond First Baptist Church.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Visitation will be Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Thurman Funeral Home in Richmond. Burial will be in the Large Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan., at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2015.
