Bruce James Schafer

Bruce James Schafer, a loving son, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully Monday, Aug. 24, 2015 at his home in Lakeview, Ohio, after a chronic illness.

Bruce was born on Oct. 14, 1949 in Lansing, Mich. and raised in Dayton, Ohio.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Bruce had great respect for nature. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends in Ohio, Kansas, Washington, Texas and Florida after his retirement. When not traveling, Bruce fished Indian Lake in Ohio, Gunn Park in Kansas, or hunted turkey in southern Ohio. Spotting deer, on Kansas deer rides, was always a source of enjoyment.

Bruce is survived by his mother, Theresa Schafer of Fort Scott and brothers: Joe of Dallas, Texas; Maury of Seattle, Wash.; William James of Fort Scott, Kans. and Louis III of Victor, New York. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Albert (Bud) Schafer, Jr.

There was cremation. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, 714 S. Eddy, Fort Scott at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2015. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 10 a.m.
